On Friday, March 14, 2025, the Iraqi Cultural Attach\u00e9, Assistant Professor Dr. Abduljal<\/strong>ee<\/strong>l Mohammed Majeed, met with a group of Iraqi students studying at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The meeting was held in one of the university’s halls, with the presence of the administrative officer from the attach\u00e9 office and the Community Affairs Officer from the Iraqi Embassy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the meeting was to listen to the students\u2019 concerns, address their academic and administrative issues, and follow up on their overall well-being. Currently, 612 Iraqi students are enrolled at USM in various academic stages and fields, including scientific, humanitarian, and medical disciplines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the discussion, the students raised several issues. The Cultural Attach\u00e9 received their complaints and promised to work on suitable solutions. They also highlighted the need to expedite the thesis defense process, especially for students with specific deadlines set by their sponsoring institutions in Iraq, and to speed up the issuance of graduation documents due to the increasing number of Iraqi students at the university.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Abduljaleel stressed the importance of representing Iraq positively in both behavior and academic performance, encouraging students to focus on academic excellence and successful completion of their studies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the representative from the Iraqi Embassy expressed the embassy\u2019s readiness to facilitate procedures related to issuing and renewing passports and residence permits, which fall within the embassy\u2019s core responsibilities for the Iraqi community in Malaysia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the International Student Department and the Director of Postgraduate and International Studies, along with staff members from both departments. They listened to the students\u2019 concerns directly and expressed great understanding, emphasizing their readiness to foster transparency and build trust between the students and USM.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
