On Monday, December 2, 2024, the Iraqi Embassy in Kuala Lumpur hosted Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari, the Vice -Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional Malaysia (UNITEN), and his accompanying delegation. They were received by the Deputy Head of Mission at the Iraqi Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, First Counselor Mr. Ahmed Ghanem, and the Iraqi Cultural Attach\u00e9, Assistant Professor Dr. Abduljaleel Mohammed Mageed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visiting delegation included Professor Ir. Dr. Izham Zainal ABIDIN, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs, and Dr. Hidayah Binti Sulaiman, Director of the International Relations Department. The meeting was also attended by Associate Professor Dr. Firas Basim Al-Naimmy, an Iraqi academic and researcher at UNITEN.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visit highlights the strong ties between UNITEN, the Iraqi Embassy, the Cultural Attach\u00e9, and Iraqi universities. It was noted during the meeting that UNITEN has signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Iraqi universities, with three additional MoUs ready for signing soon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions during the meeting focused on mechanisms for implementing these MoUs to enhance the work of current research teams and promote student exchange programs between UNITEN and Iraqi universities. The Iraqi Embassy extended an invitation to the UNITEN President to visit Iraq soon for the purpose of signing the MoUs in Baghdad, with the Embassy and Cultural Attach\u00e9 expressing their readiness to facilitate the visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also addressed the topic of reciprocal scholarship programs, which could significantly enhance UNITEN’s reputation in Iraqi academic circles. Additionally, the possibility of implementing joint undergraduate and postgraduate programs with Iraqi universities or establishing a UNITEN branch in Iraq was explored, following the example of other global universities.<\/strong>At the end of the meeting, both parties expressed their gratitude for the visit and agreed to intensify communication channels to achieve the agreed objectives.
